to me as breathing.  My mind is full of ideas swirling
around, and they need to be explored and released.
The brain and the hands are itching to find out what
will develop.

I grew up in eclectic San Francisco with a machinist/
inventor father, a couturier mother and a stack of
sisters and brothers, where I was surrounded by
fabulous one-of-a-kind treasures.  25 years of Grand
Opera set design, theatre and costume design honed
my skills in creating entire fantastic worlds.  Now I
design jewelry and textiles, bringing richness and
functionality to every aspect of my life.  Color is
everything, it is the first thing you see.  The right
color sparks the emotions.  Creating unusual color
combinations is one of the most satisfying aspects
of my work.

My background in historical styles gives me an eye for
the beauty of proportion and richness of detail.  Today,
deep in the forests of rural Oregon, I gather my
inspirations,  assembling the objects, colors, textures
or shapes that reflect the mood I’m going for.  I
manipulate beads, wire, copper or fabrics by
juxtaposition, dyeing or painting.  I play with the line,
creating different emotions with the shapes.  I adore
an Art Nouveau whiplash curve and am a sucker for
anything square.  I enjoy creating a great whole out of
simple parts.  My work is done when it needs nothing
added, nothing subtracted.

I believe in efficient use of the world’s resources, living
elegantly off-grid yet high-tech.  I enjoy re-purposing
everyday objects to high style. Vintage electronic
components are a current inspiration.  I see their colors
and sculptural shapes coming together to create an
entirely different reality than their original purpose,
giving new life to things forgotten.
